Irongate tech Center Historical

This property was founded as the research laboratories of Gulf Oil in 1933 and moved to Harmar Township in 1935. It served many decades as one of the leading industrial research centers in the world, with labs engaging in petroleum, chemical, polymer, refining, and nuclear research.

Formerly known as the University of Pittsburgh Applied Research Center (U-PARC), Irongate Technology Center (‘ITC’) has been re-branded and refreshed to cater to the needs of the commercial real estate marketplace. ITC is an approximate one-million-square foot high-security research park campus comprising 53 buildings situated on over 85 acres. ITC is located 14 miles from Downtown Pittsburgh in Harmar Township, Pennsylvania adjacent to the Route 28 expressway and Interstate 76, the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

Upon Gulf Oil's acquisition by Chevron Oil in 1985, the research park was donated to the University of Pittsburgh in order to keep the center open for the benefit of the region. We currently house a diverse tenant base across all sectors of the private and public spectrum.

Comprised of two distinct portions, an Upper Section, housing the majority of the bricks and mortar structures, and a Lower Section that is home to one structure and developable land for future use. Selective renovation projects are underway at the site to include office, warehouse and lab refurbishment. We have approximately 50,000 square feet of office available, the opportunity to provide ~100,000 sf of new warehouse, and various other smaller availabilities for smaller tenant needs.
